Rushton’s Dia de los Muertos altar honoring Pop (Great Grandpa Ray Spurlock) included a Twinkie, a beautiful mini quilt (made by @h2spurlock) with a photo of Pop and some of his illustrations, a candle, a sugar skull decorated in class last week, papel picado, a skeleton, and a skull cookie. They had a fiesta during lunch with an assortment of Mexican food, including carnitas tacos (made by me, and they were sooooo delicious, if I do say so myself!). I loved hearing the stories the students told of their loved ones who have passed. Rushton is such a good kid, and I’m grateful that I get to spy on him in class every once in a while. And that he’ll still give me a hug in front of his friends.

Fall Fest at school is one of our favorite nights of the year! The big kids especially love the freedom of running around all night playing carnival games and eating candy with their friends, and I love seeing so many families and friends from the community while working at the ticket booth. (Mad props to my friend @bridgetpeters76 for putting on another great event! Rush requested that we have Fall Fest every month. Think you can make that happen?)
