My dad’s childhood home. It sits right on the main road and backs up to the levy, which my dad would walk along with his dad during rains, watching for swells and weak spots. The orange trees are some of the tallest I’ve seen! My Grandma Bain told countless stories (and repeated them countless times) about this home—hosting Primary for years before she was even a member of the church, my dad chasing chickens in the yard as a toddler, cooking big holiday meals… I wish I could remember them all! It would be amazing to see this home restored someday. It has so much charm and is likely one of first homes built when Nicolaus was settled 150 years ago.
