Last week we visited the teeny tiny town that my dad grew up in. Nicolaus is nestled among walnut orchards along the Feather River, northwest of Sacramento. In this 2-room schoolhouse, he had the same teacher for 1st through 8th grade (Mrs. Finch), and she also happened to be his next door neighbor! My dad gave us the grand walking tour of the town—past both stop signs—and shared stories from his childhood. I’m so grateful to be his daughter and for all the forces that shaped his life for good over the years. I love that he was able to share his history with my kids.

Due to a change in plans after an early sign-in deadline, we had ourselves a rare Saturday WITHOUT a swim meet! So we spent the day exploring Sacramento. We started with breakfast at @thewaffleexperience and then the train museum. I spent a lot of time in Sacramento as a kid since my Grandma Bain lived there, so it was fun to take my kids to some of the same places. 🚂🚊🚦 And I’m sure my siblings and I acted just as grumpy as my kids did when all my parents wanted to do was show us a fun time. 🙄 #werehavingfundammit
